\nDark Chapters: Reading the Still Lives of David Garneau<\/em>
\nUniversity of Regina Press<\/p>\n

Dark Chapters brings together 63 full colour still life paintings with aesthetic\/personal\/political responses from some of Canada\u2019s finest poets, artists, curators, and fiction writers (among them Fred Wah, Paul Seesequasis, Jesse Wente, Lillian Allen, Billy-Ray Belcourt, Larissa Lai, and Susan Musgrave). Garneau\u2019s still life series \u201cDark Chapters\u201d (a nod to the Reports of Truth and Reconciliation Commission, in which Justice Murray Sinclair describes the residential school system as \u201cone of the darkest, most troubling chapters in our nation\u2019s history\u201d) combine common objects (books, bones, teacups, mirrors) and less familiar ones (a M\u00e9tis sash, a stone hammer, a braid of sweetgrass) to reflect the complexity of contemporary Indigenous experiences in a form of painting, the still life, which was historically considered one of the lowest forms of painting. David Garneau has written about how Indigenous art isn\u2019t written about with critical care, often characterized as work to champion and\/or make space for, and feels that some of the best writing in recent years on Indigenous art has been found in catalogues. These observations and a desire for depth in art discourse inspired him to devise a responsive form that allows engagement with his paintings on their own terms. This book features accessible, searching, and revelatory responses that touch on decolonization, allyship, representation, history, and how these ideas speak in art, in Garneau\u2019s paintings, and in the responding artist\u2019s engagement with their contemporaries and their time. <\/div>\n

The sculptor Jean-Robert Drouillard sings under the pseudonym Juste Robert. His guitar is sometimes wonky and he sings with a funny accent. Robert\u2019s songs are like self-portraits that speaks of the St-Laurent River, of a really short skirt, and of the thick fog that swallows up the ferry. His music hits and swings. Or not. It\u2019s skewed and pure at once. Originally from Gasp\u00e9sie, the artist Jean-Robert Drouillard lives and works in the centre of Quebec City. Since 2004, he teaches sculpture at the Maison des M\u00e9tiers d\u2019art. He conceived and produced over ten public art projects. His work is included in many public and private collections, including Aldo, SAJO inc., MNBAQ, the City of Qu\u00e9bec and the City of Montreal. He started in 2004 a parallel music endeavor under the pseudonym Juste Robert. His second release is due in October 2018.<\/p>\n

Art M\u00fbr is proud to announce the opening of a permanent space in Berlin, Germany. Following the success of its first year in Germany as a guest gallery at the Spinnerei in Leipzig, Art M\u00fbr will open a permanent space in the German capital to continue its activities in Europe.<\/p>\n

Art M\u00fbr Berlin will be located in the central neighbourhood of Mitte in close proximity to the Natural History Museum and at walking distance to some of the most influential institutions in the country, including the imposing Hamburger Bahnhof, the KW Intitute for Contemporary Art and the Boros Collection. The space that measures over 100 square meters (over 1100 square feet) will be divided into two rooms, allowing the gallery to run a double program with Canadian and local artists.<\/p>\n

The gallery will be inaugurated on November 16, 2017 in the presence of the Delegate of Quebec in Germany, Mr Claude Trudelle. The first exhibition Mutation \/ Transformation \/ Metamorphosis is a project curated by the director Ana\u00efs Castro which includes the work of Quebec artists Patrick B\u00e9rub\u00e9, Laurent Lamarche and Karine Payette along works by the German collective Famed.<\/p>\n

The subsequent program will be comprised mostly of solo exhibitions by artists such as Simon Bilodeau, Trevor Kiernander, Jinny Yu, Robbie Cornelissen, Marie-Eve Levasseur, and Patrick Beaulieu.<\/p>\n

The Resale is back. This unique event offers you the opportunity to renew your art collection by either selling artwork you own, or by acquiring new artwork from other collectors. You can send us your modern or contemporary artwork proposals by email. Proposals should include:<\/p>\n

Your name, mailing address, email, and phone number
\nOne image (JPG) per artwork submitted
\nFull description for each work submitted (name of the artist, title of the artwork, year of production, medium, dimensions
\nThe desired retail price of each work submitted. *Please note that the gallery takes a 25% commission on sales.<\/p>\n

All proposals will be considered. Only the selected works will be included in the exhibition.

For its 20th anniversary, Art M\u00fbr is glad to announce to inauguration of a new space in Europe!<\/p>\n

In September 2016, Art M\u00fbr opened a satellite space in the Spinnerei, a cultural complex in Leipzig, Germany. This makes Art M\u00fbr among the first Canadian galleries to open a space abroad. Leipzig is a dynamic city known for its exciting art scene. Costs of living are much lower than the German capital, drawing in a host of artists and galleries in the last fifteen years. Art M\u00fbr recognizes a place for itself in the cultural effervescence of this city and embarks with optimism on this new venture. Art M\u00fbr\u2019s new space was inaugurated with a solo exhibition of the Nova Scotia artist, Cal Lane.<\/div>
