Rowland’s work provides a new lens to experience public space. Working mainly in installation, the work creates a site-specific language for the viewer to interact with it, which is then interacting with space itself. The exhibition space is mirrored within photographs that are then re-presented by forming them into a personified industrial galvanized pipe-legged statue. The site-specificity of my work is influenced by shared space, occupied and lived-in. Re-creating a familiar space and presenting it as something new, to step into a different pair of shoes and experience a new perspective.
Tobin Rowland is a Multi-Disciplinary Artist living and working on Treaty 1 Territory (Winnipeg, MB), having just received their BFA Honors in Studio work.
