Ewa Monika Zebrowski

Ewa Monika Zebrowski’s photographs and artist’s books engage with ideas of displacement and memory, place and time, traces.  She creates visual narratives, often inspired by literature, sometimes collaborating with writers and poets, sometimes writing the text herself.

Zebrowski’s photographic work has been featured in 26 solo exhibitions and over 70 group shows.  She has exhibited in Canada, the United States, Australia, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom. Since 2001, she has produced 14 artist’s books and 2 broadsides. A recent limited edition publication, twombly, italia, examines the work of the American born artist, Cy Twombly, who spent some 50 years in Italy.  Inspired by Twombly’s delicate polaroids, twombly italia, contains 21 images and 10 poems, and is a reflection on the ephemeral nature of being.

Her work can be found in private collections as well as in many museum and institutional collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Modern Art New York, the Menil Collection, the Tate Britain, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Bibliothèque National de France, the Farnsworth Art Museum, and the Saison Poetry Library in London, as well as Columbia University, McGill University, University of Toronto, Stanford University, Yale University and the American Academy in Rome.

Ms. Zebrowski holds a BA in English (Occidental College, California), a BFA in Photography (Concordia University, Montreal) and an MA in Visual Arts (Université de Québec a Montréal).  She worked for 20 years in the film industry in Canada, the United States, and Italy. She was born in London, England, the daughter of Polish immigrants.
